Theoretical training

 

After obtaining a PPL(A) certificate the applicant may commence theoretical training for the CPL(A). The course is modular, 650 hours, full-time or distance learning and weekly consultations and is held at one of the following organisations – Private Transport College, Institute of Air Transport, Technical University of Sofia or other approved training organizations.

 

In order to be licensed, the applicant must pass examinations in English before the DG CAA. Examination sessions are published on the website of the CAA www.caa.bg. In the theoretical examination candidates shall demonstrate a level of theoretical knowledge appropriate to the privileges granted.

 

Flight training

 

Requirements for applicants to commence flight training:

– Minimum age 18 years.

– Satisfactory knowledge of English.

– Possession of a valid PPL(A).

– At least 150 hours of flight time as a pilot of an aircraft.

– Passed VFR Night flight training.

– Completion of an ATPL or CPL(A) theoretical training course.

– Class 1 medical certificate /certificate must be issued by a European specialist medical centre/

– Copy of diploma of education /secondary or higher/.

For PPL(A) holders without an IR(A) rating, the programme includes 26 hours of flight training.

If the applicant has a valid IR(A) or holds a Basic Instrument Flight Module course completion certificate, he/she may be credited with instrument flight instruction time with an instructor. In this case, the applicant need only complete 15 hours of visual flight instruction with an instructor.

The flight training shall be performed in a Cessna 172, Piper Seneca 2,Cessna 152 Aerobat

The applicant shall be provided with – the flight training syllabus with the development of each exercise. During his/her training, the applicant shall acquire the competence to operate the aeroplane within its characteristics, to execute all manoeuvres smoothly and accurately as required by EASA, to be able to make decisions and exercise judgement during flights in accordance with his/her aeronautical knowledge and to control the aeroplane at all times.

Upon successful completion of the flight programme, the applicant shall be given a flight test within 02:00 hours before a checking instructor appointed by the CAA DG.
