The purpose of the course is to provide candidates with adequate training in the teaching of theory, flight instruction and synthetic flight instruction to be able to instruct for class/type rating on any single-engine or twin-engine single-pilot aircraft for which the candidate is qualified.

Requirements for commencement of training:

An applicant for a CRI(SPA) certificate must have at least:

1. For multi-engine aeroplanes: 500 hours of flight time as a pilot of aeroplanes; 30 hours as PIC of the appropriate class or type of aeroplane.

2. For single-engine aeroplanes: 300 hours of flight time as a pilot on aeroplanes; 30 hours as PIC on the appropriate class or type of aeroplane

The CRI (SPA) training course shall include not less than:

– 25 hours of teaching and training;

– 10 hours of technical training, including review of technical knowledge, preparation of lesson plans, and development of classroom/simulator skills;

– 5 hours of multi-engine flight instruction or 3 hours of single-engine flight instruction conducted by an FI(A) qualified in accordance with FCL.905.FI(i).

Upon successful completion of the flight training programme, the applicant shall be given a 1:30 flight test by an examiner appointed by the CAA DG.
