A PPL(A) with SEP /land/ rating entitles the holder to fly without remuneration as PIC or co-pilot in any single-engine aeroplane used for non-commercial flight, provided he/she is qualified in that aeroplane.

 

Requirements for applicants:

 

Minimum age – 17 years.

Documents to be submitted by the applicant: copies of diplomas /secondary or higher/, Class 2 medical certificate /certificate must be issued by a European specialist medical centre/.

The training programme includes:

Internal rules and structure of the organisation, airport area, restricted areas, methodological developments.

Theoretical training

Duration. Upon completion of the theoretical training, the candidate takes tests in the individual disciplines and if the pass rate exceeds 75%, he/she receives a Certificate of Completion for PPL (A).

In order to be licensed the applicant must pass 9 examinations before the DG CAA in Bulgarian or English. The examination sessions are monthly. The exams must be taken by the end of the flight training.

Flight training – 45 flying hours in a Cessna 172 aircraft which includes the flight test.

The applicant will be provided with the flight training syllabus with the development of each exercise, charts, aircraft /AFM/ instruction and other materials on electronic media.

The flight training programme shall include:

– Familiarization with the type of aircraft on which the training will be conducted – airframe, engine, cockpit equipment, communications equipment.

– Familiarization with the training program, flight documentation.

– Familiarization with the flight area in the airport area.

– Flight preparation and pre-flight operations.

– Transport flights with instructor.

– Solo flights.

– Preparation and execution of VFR route flights.

– Radio navigation training.

Before and after each flight, the instructor conducts a briefing with the candidate on the conduct of the training, the success rate of the trainee, the identification of errors and ways to prevent them.

 

Upon successful completion of the flight programme, the applicant shall be given a flight test by an examiner appointed by the DG CAA. During the 1:30 flight test, the applicant shall demonstrate correct take-off, landing, aerodrome area flight and VFR route execution, as well as radio conversations.

The SEP /land/ rating must be renewed with a flight check every two years by a checking instructor. In the event that the SEP /land/ endorsement is not renewed in a timely manner, the applicant shall undergo a recertification programme and a flight check.
